‘Green’ heating system installed in Renaissance Tower
March 22, 2013 (Edmonton, Alta.) – A highly innovative heat and power co-generation system was today mounted onto the Renaissance Tower, the new 90-suite residential project being built for Métis Capital Housing Corporation, as part of Edmonton’s Boyle Renaissance Project.
The 0.38MW (megawatt) natural gas-fired combined heat and power (CHP) micro co-generation system, provided by ENMAX Energy, was raised to the roof of the Tower, prior to the removal of the construction crane on the project.
For the first time in Edmonton, two neighbouring buildings, with different owners, will benefit from one combined heat and power (CHP) cogeneration system.
As well as meeting the needs of two different building owners, the CHP will also recover waste heat – normally emitted into the air – and use this energy to heat water.
Developed by ENMAX Energy, the new system is mounted on the roof of Renaissance Tower, and will provide residential heat and hot water to both the Metis Capital Housing project, as well as the neighbouring 150-unit YMCA Welcome Village.
It is anticipated that the first residents will be able to move into Renaissance Tower before the end of the year.
